Just adjusted air gap on pulsar to.030 No change in pulsar ac output. I'm sure I need to get a new pulsar. But will that affect coil output volts of only 8.8 volts (dc) Wile cranking. I would think I must get ignition 12volt output first. But like I said, first 2 cycle cart. Not sure if I mentioned this, But i bought this cart in a no start condition. Previous owner gave up. And sold it to me. I wont give Up! But I understand why he did. May change my name to DAYS AND CONFUSED Thanks again!

Part reason you are getting the 8v is the hei is turn on, but not turning off because the pulsar isnt triggering the hei. You need new pulsar installed aand gap set .What ignition coil did you install? Remove the +,- wires from coil and measure the primary resistance of coil and report back. You should have a coil around 3-4 ohms primary, seems like stock coil was around that.

What size of gap will your coil spark jump? My HEI will jump 3/4" off the coil wire. Make sure your coil wire & boots are upgraded to silicone to deal with increased voltage. I relocated my coil - photo on one of my other posts.

Will order new pulsar on monday, I used new gm hei coil from 77 nova 6 cylinder, As I saw on this site to use. But when measuring ohm resistance across +,- only have 1.0 ohm. I checked original it has almost 4.0 ohms.
Should I use original coil? or upgrade to different manufacture coil.

I'd try a different coil maybe find one closer in ohms or if you have the oem try it. I have seem some of the HEI systems give guys trouble on here.

yes, i would re-install original ez go coil, it will cause less voltage drop and i think its oil filled for better cooling. Part of problem is the ezgo circuit, having your coil, solenoid, hei, all those loads come thru three switches and associated wiring . 1 ohm resistance can cause 3-4 volts drop before the coil. I ave worked a circuit up to solve this voltage drop problem. If you are intersting i can email info. It will require installing 30a,12v slave relay and minor wirng changes, costs around 8-10 dollars for relay at your local auto store.

Didn't get a chance to order pulsar today, Busy at work. Will do Tuesday. I am interested in your relay, wiring change though. Shoot me an e mail with info. Thanks!

I rechecked my 87 manual - the air gap on the pulsar is in fact .016 - .022 . Moving it out to .030 could halve the magnetic effect on the pulsar. You may have weak magnets as well in your flywheel. Try moving closer then recheck output.

Just Installed NEW Pulsar adjusted air gap to.018 ac volts still low .206 Can't seem to get that 1/2 ac volt reading. Old Pulsar was .145 I checked meter, Used a friends same readings. Very confused.
