Default Needing Engine 1999 EZ Go

New to site and new to golf carts ...............

Just bought a 1999 EZ GO gas , got it for a deal . 6 in Jakes lift , 22 in tires , back seat , headlights , torque clutch kit , was not running . $500.00 . Got it running , but engine smells like burning oil . It smoked really bad at 1st , now I see NO smoke but still smell it . What are my options for engines ? I do NOT want to rebuild my stock engine . My local EZ GO dealer said , he would install a 11 hp engine , with new header , pipe , and carb for $1600.00 turn key . Is that to much ? I need a drop in kit , not looking for the huge " big bore kits" this is a family cart . Thanks for any info . Great site !!

Or do I sell it running good , and buy newer cart ? I live in the south and carts are VERY high here . A used gas like this $500.00 cart is $3500-$4500 USED I wanted to have around $2000.00 in a cart .

If its a family cart, have your guy put a new engine in it, if you dont like it sell it for 3000+, win win

Been reading about the clone engine kits , sounds like alot cheaper !! BUT I can not weld and fab stuff . Does any company sell a kit to install a clone . I do not want the big Honda engine kit on EBay ( its $2500.00 ) and it to much HP . I really want the dealer installed 11 hp engine , but hate to spend $1600.00 on a 1999 cart .

If it is lifted 6 inches, there is a chance that is is simply overfilled with oil (the dipstick won't be accurate if the engine is tilted).

1999 is not that old for a golf cart, new engine will run you for years..........

You could try some thicker oil (20w50), that should slow down the oil consumption a little bit.

If it wasn't running for a few years, there is a chance that the oil control rings are stuck and it will stop burning as much oil if they come unstuck. Pouring a tablespoon of ATF (auto trans fluid) into each cylinder through the spark plug holes and letting it sit for a day or two sometimes works on auto/tractor engines with stuck rings.

Thanks , I just put 20w 50 in it this week . Thanks for tip . I plan on working on it , and driving it all weekend . Maybe it will stop smoking the more I drive it ? I will just drive it for a few months , then put a motor in it if it does not get better .
