2004 Yamaha G22E batteries
I recently purchased a 2004 G22E for my wife. The vehicle was hardly used and appears brand new(garage kept). That said, I wonder about the batteries. 6 eight volt Trojans, appearing to be dated 2010. Water level is fine, but I kind of wonder how often they charged them.
Yesterday, she drove the cart about ten miles or so and returned it to the garage for charging. The Yamie charger uses colored lights to indicate charge. The red light (incomplete charge) was on for a long time. The charger got hot so I unplugged it for about an hour or so and then plugged it back in. Red came back on and then eventually went to yellow (80% charge) and then green for 100%. Today, she drove it to the pool and back, which is hardly a couple of miles and put it back on the charger. It went back to the red light. If the red light indicates less than an 80% charge, doesn't that mean the batteries are very weak? I can't use my digital VOM on it right now, as the leads are shot. Another story. If the yellow light indicates 80%, then the batteries must be pretty low if the light takes a while to come on during charging. I haven't checked the individual cells yet, but I thought a bit of feed back regarding the state of charge would alleviate some of my consternation. There is an analogue meter on it that shows the charge in the "white" position, even after she uses it. It just seems strange that she would have less than 80% on it after driving a measly couple of miles. I plan to look for some new leads for my digital VOM today. Maybe I can check the voltage tomorrow morning before she takes off for the pool. I'll let it sit, charged over night and then check it. |

Re: 2004 Yamaha G22E batteries
You really need voltage readings after charging, after sitting and then after her normal run to determine how much of the capacity she is using. The charger isn't going to tell you much.
