Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
I pulled my govenor off. Once I had the arm off the shaft, it was a single pin that allowed the whole arm to be removed. I did my drilling in a vice as there was no way I was going to try and drill the hole out in the cart.
I did use Mike Mac's tip from the G8 section about the strap on the secondary. Got the secondary clutch installed by myself. Thanks Mike! |

I suggest you put your modded sheave back in and work with a retailer to find the correct weighted spring to match your needs. There are many many spring weights available, there's no one spring fits all. I travel with my cart, so I carry a few different driven spring weights with me. One of which even stronger than the "black" spring. |

Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
The anticipation continues. Last night I found my leak (head bolts were loose). Tightened them to 36 ft lbs and now have 150 psig compression. Upon doing my work I glanced down at the spark plug and found there was maybe 0.004" gap. Regapped it to 0.030 (let me know if I need to change this!) and buttoned everything up. Got late on my last night, so I was going to test drive it at lunch time today. Made it home and backed the cart out the shop, BIG difference just backing it out the shop! Let the engine kill and shifted into forward (need to do some more adjustments on my cable) and when I went to restart, nothing. Can hear the S/G turning, but no engine turning. Opened the seat and pressed the pedal to find the S/G shaft spinning inside the pulley. Called Plowman's and spoke to Dan being I had bought the S/G from him and Dan suggested to just try and tighten the nut. I know I have a couple strap wrenches, I'll try to find those to hold back up. Wife drove up with lunch and then I had to come back to work. Oh the suspense is killing me!

Re: Plowman's Performance Kit install help
Big difference and now I've finally witnessed what everyone brags about! I'm still tweaking my throttle cable, but now I have an "idle" around 400 rpm. I want to get the cable to where I'm idling around 600 rpm. When I first started I was at 1000-1200. I'm using a Tiny Tach for my tachometer.
Now I need to get some good tires for it. |
