Golf Cart running half speed
I have a Sport St 2+2, which i believe is just a modified txt. Thee past few days the cart hops and sputters on take off and will only run 1/2 speed. Last year i upgraded to alltrax 500 amp controller and hd solenoid. I am thinking either the rear end or the motor is going out. I am just not sure what to check.

Re: Golf Cart running half speed
I'd check the batteries (failing under load) and the amp delivery system (F/R switch and High current cables) first.
What is the pack voltage 12 hours after the charger shuts off? What does the pack voltage drop to when you are driving cart? What is the voltage between the controller's B- and M- terminals when pedal is pushed just far enough for solenoid to click? What is it when pedal is on floor? |

Re: Golf Cart running half speed
I charged the batteries 2 days ago and have only test drove it for apprx. 5 min. its is sitting at 38.7v. At M- to B- i have 38.7 volts at solenoid click. drops almost to zero after pedal is pressed all the way down.

You may have to rig up some longer test leads for your handheld DVM so you can hang it somewhere you can see it while driving, or get someone to watch meter will the other drives. |

------------- Now measure between M- and B+ while driving. Should be just the opposite and have about zero volts when the solenoid clicks and climb to FULL pack voltage when pedal is on floor. The FULL pack voltage part is a little tricky since the pack voltage drops when amps are being drawn from it. The more the amps drawn, the more the voltage drop. You almost need two voltmeters since you are trying to compare two voltages that are occurring at the same time, but the second best way is to do it in two passes over the same stretch of ground. Monitor the voltage between M- and B+ on the first pass and then monitor the pack voltage on the second pass. |

Re: Golf Cart running half speed
The pack voltage goes from 38.2 to 35.2 while between m-and b+ it mesures .4v and climbs to 35.2

Re: Golf Cart running half speed
I also notices with the seat off there is a low humming or grumbling sound for a second before cart lurches forward at almost full throttle. it wont take off with light pedal pressure.

Re: Golf Cart running half speed
Sounds like motor brushes may be stuck or worn out. If this is the case, continuing to drive it is causing more damage to motor, will make motor repair more expensive.

Re: Golf Cart running half speed
The tests that have been done, more or less eliminate Battery Pack, Controller and Throttle issues. |
