Default 2012 RXV barely moves

Hi all,

My 2012 EZGO RXV was working fine until suddenly when I put it in forward or reverse, it barely moves. There is a shudder sound coming out of the hog so my first thought was I had a slipped hub. Upon taking the rear tires off and inspecting the hubs, there is no damage to the teeth and the hubs are not slipping. I then inspected the batteries, in which I have 12 volts across each battery and 48 volts across all of the batteries under full load. I will get a acid tester tomorrow to confirm there's nothing going on with the batteries.

Next, I tested the voltage before the and after the speed controller. There is 48 volts before the speed controller and only 24 volts after the speed controller. By the way, I have a Danaher Motion controller (83A21102A). There are 3 legs coming from the controller to the motor so I'm not sure what these are and if I am measuring the voltage correctly.

This is as far as I have gotten. I stumbled across this forum so I thought I would reach out. Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!

Stop !!!
Do not poke around on RXV wire harness !!!
Asking for disaster.

Controller for RXV's rarely fail. Last thing to worry about.

RXV motor is 3 phase A.C. Motor. Voltage and frequency change rapidly and it is hard to get a meaningful voltage reading.

The most likely cause of RXV not moving and shuttering is a bad parking brake.

Easy to check.

1) key off.
2) lift seat put cart in "tow"
3) key to "n"

Does cart push/roll freely?

if no--
you probably have a bad parking brake.

If cart does not roll freely, post so we can help you change the brake.

I have a 2009 EZGO RXV golf cart.

If I do the above you mentioned, the cart will not move?

Not being a jerk, but start a new thread about your cart issue. We will be glad to help.

The cart rolls freely with it in tow mode and in neutral. What do I try next? Thanks in advance

Good idea CG.

Please start a new thread.

If cart rolls freely, next step is to hook to a handheld code scanner.
This will require taking cart to reputable shop.

Without knowing what is causing problem, we might take a while to get it right.

Might be encoder. it could be mechanical.
Good tech w/handheld should be able to pinpoint .

It was the speed sensor. Replaced and now works great. Just keeping the thread up to date in case anyone else has the same issue.

I would not just replace the encoder for this problem. Many different errors cause erratic behaviour for RXV. Its really hard to pinpoint without a handheld scanner. All you can do is "test for whats right". Many parts on rxv are limited in "testability" without a scanner or oscilloscope (gonna have a hard time reading a 64 step encoder with a voltmeter). The troubleshooting guide available here is best you can get without a handheld scanner/programmer.
