Sounds like that breaker may be your problem. If so, cheap fix!

Quick question, would you say it's fairly uncommon for the speed sensor magnet to crack? Or is it something that happens regularly?

It's very common to get a hairline fracture in it, but it very rarely effects the performance of the magnet unless it separates from the hub.

Sensor failure is usually the electronics not the magnet.
