Because if I remember right it looks like it cracked off from behind the plate where it is mounted and it was laying down on top of some other wires

Jump the wires together with a blade fuse and see if it works.

Sounds like that breaker may be your problem. If so, cheap fix!

Quick question, would you say it's fairly uncommon for the speed sensor magnet to crack? Or is it something that happens regularly?

It's very common to get a hairline fracture in it, but it very rarely effects the performance of the magnet unless it separates from the hub.
