04 ezgo pds rear noise
My car has started making a whining noise either from the motor or the rearend. I had to pull the rearend cover off to replace the gasket to stop a leak. It almost sounds like it is something rubbing or dragging. Can anyone tell me what it might be? Thanks RGO

Could be anything:
1. pan can be dented and rubbing ring gear 2. brakes dragging 3. axle bearings 4. input shaft bearing(s) 5. motor bearing |

Re: 04 ezgo pds rear noise
Thanks Sports coupe the only thing I changed was the read end pan. That is exactly what it sounds like because the noise gets higher as you speed up. I will take a closer look. I think that pan will only fit on one way. Thanks, again. In Georgia myself

Re: 04 ezgo pds rear noise
Ok I have had a little time to check further. When I got the wheels off the ground I could turn and there is no noise, but when I push the pedal it is there. It appears it is in the motor but does not seem to effect the power. It sounds like a high pitch whine but I know it is not normal. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 04 ezgo pds rear noise
What sportcoupe listed +
6. Motor Brushes. What weight oil did you fill differential with? Also, some of the bearing sounds are quieter when wheels are off the ground. Does the noise seem to be louder on one side than the other? Take the center cover off and anything coming from motor or topside of differential will sound louder. |

Re: 04 ezgo pds rear noise
I used SAE 30 and that is all I have changed. I has been setting on my lift or in the shop for 4 or 5 months as I have repainted the body added lights and charge meter. It was not doing this before I changed the rear end oil. I did pressure wash the frame and motor while i had the body off.

Re: 04 ezgo pds rear noise
Add a couple ounces of STP to the differential oil to see if it quietens down.
I'm currently running an 80/20 mix of SAE 40 and STP, but going to a 9:1 mix of Lucas 85W-140 gear oil and STP. --------- You also might have gotten the motors rear (and only) bearing wet when you pressure washed, the speed sensor doesn't seal very tight. |
