Default Golf Cart USB charger

I just ordered a Poly-Planar USB-PM Panel Mount USB Charge Port - 12V

Since that usb port is 12v while golf cart is 48v, I would need a voltage reducer like this one

Am I correct?

Am I ok connecting the voltage reducer to golf cart battery meter to draw 48v from or do I need to run wires all the way to the front seat and the batteries?

I would locate it near the batteries, and run the 12 volts to the outlet.

How would I run 12v cables from batteries compartment to the dashboard? Under the cart?

My cart has front and real lights, are those lights 12 or 48 volts?

Look for a fuse block, the trace the wires back to the batteries. More than likely, it uses two 6 volt batteries, and all accessories are typically 12 volt. You should size the reducer to carry all loads, current and future. Do you want to add a stereo? What kind of lights do you have, halogen or LED? two 55 watt halogen headlights is nearly 10 amps. Add a stereo, horn, blinkers, tail lights, etc. and now you're talking about close to 30 amps which you can get from cartsunlimited.net. You can get cheaper ones on eBay, but I've read about a number of failures. You get what you pay for.

As to how to run the 12 volts, if you look under your cart, there are a number of wires running inside wire-loom, running all over the place. It will be obvious. Wire-loom can be purchased at any automotive or electronics store.

I have whatever lights the cart came with, all factory. I'll need to look into it, but it comes with 8v batteries, not 6v. I am sure there are 6 batteries there, not 8. So there must be a voltage reducer somewhere, right?

Either that or the lights are 48 volt. Again, see if there is a fuse block somewhere and see where on the batteries it's connected. They should be the only small wires, besides the charger cables.

Would probably help if you told us the year, type, and drive type, for instance 1998 TXT Series, and whether it's stock, customized by dealer, or customized by previous owner.
