club car charger 48 volt
My 48 volt club car charger voltage meter is jumping to full voltage as soon as I pug it into the cart and its getting hot. This problem just started. Does anyone have an Idea of what could be causing this?

Re: club car charger 48 volt
Congrats on the new ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives’, husbands, girlfriend’s and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Is the charger sparking when you connect it? You could have a bad battery that could be causing this. I would double check each battery for any issues before trying this again.

To help you more with this or with future posts always list the year and model/type of cart you have. The serial # always helps, too. |

Re: club car charger 48 volt
Well I can assure you the OBC is failed as it is not delaying the start of the charger as that is a safety catch.
But to bypass it for charger testing, do the following. Bypass the OBC by running a jumper from the back side of the charge receptacle (where the black 10g wire is that goes into the harness) and run it directly to the Main Pack Negative. Also take the grey sense wire coming off the same receptacle and land it to the same place. This will allow the charger to turn on "if" the OBC has failed. Note- This is only to test and not to make normal operation as the charger will be in complete manual operation and will not turn off or have the charging algorithm. Find a new OBC here https://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/p...08-5-and-newer If your amperage stays steady it will be all good. If not, the rectifier is bad and you can get one here https://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/p...-car-102273501 |

Re: club car charger 48 volt
I did the bypass on obc and the charger is still doing the same thing. the meter immediately jumps to full right which I think is 17 or 20 amps and is buzzing.

Re: club car charger 48 volt
It is supposed to do that. But is should not go 17a to 5a and back to 15a and back down, etc. It should go up and stay at 17a and slowly drop down over the charge cycle.
And it supposed to buzz as that is the transformer. But your OBC is what has failed and is why there is not a 5-10 second delay after you plug it in to the cart. |
