Power Boost Switch
Hi everyone, I'm thinking about creating a power boost switch for my old ez-go 36v.
The batteries are getting tired and will only take charge up to 80%. The batteries last long enough for what I am doing, but the cart get ridiculously slow on a couple of steep climbs that I have to negotiate. I'm considering connecting another battery into the system that is connected with a 400 amp isolator switch. I would introduce the extra voltage only on the steep climbs so it wouldn't be running extra voltage for any extended period of time. Does this sound like a feasible concept? What could be the pitfalls if any? Cheers. |

Just be sure your controller and solenoid are rated for the increased voltage or you risk frying them.

With the right controller/solenoid you could run this old cart on 6 new 8v batteries when the time comes for replacement. |

Hi Scotty, would it still fry the controller if the additional voltage wasn't raising the voltage above 38v when under load? Or if it was above 38v for short bursts?

That's all up to chance, no one can say for sure yours won't pop. And if your booster system isn't raising the voltage much above 36v, is it even an upgrade? Might want to focus your efforts at cobbling together a stronger pack at that point, or just bite the bullet and go 48v for real.

After thinking up the same idea I began searching and found this answer.... I guess my next choice it to read up on upgrading to 42volts? We have a good amount of hills in our community in Georgia and it runs our cart out pretty quick...
