I'm not an expert but you might need to upgrade your FNR switch to handle the 400 amps.

Great to have a site that watches out for ya. I didn't even think about a heavier switch. It will get ordered , but will try out the new controller this weekend. It should be here on friday. Man I just read your thread on your project, looking good. Only one problem, you have made me decide to fix up one of my older carts now too. LOL

Gonna do some more investigation here, I have installed a new 400amp alltrax controller, replace ALL cables with 4ga, and put on a heavy duty FNR switch.

I was hoping to get some kinda performance increase with this upgrade.
For some reason I have not noticed that much. It is still slow going uphill. It makes it up the hills, but nothing like any of the other carts on course. I do realize that going up hill is going to be slower, but this upgrade does not seem to have changed much.

Is there something that I missed, or something else to check?
Other than going up hills the cart performs just fine. I can say it is not fast on a level surface, but seems to be fast enough and is steady.

Any other suggestions? If nothing else can be done then I will chalk it up with good maintence done on cart, with a spare controller now.

Replace the solenoid with a 48v one & put six 8v batteries in it & it should help both torque & speed.

IMO, To get noticeable performance improvement you will have to get a bigger motor to go with the 4GA wires and controller upgrade. Stock motor can't do much better unless you increase the voltage!

A 36 volt EZ GO motor will run on 48 volts.

Well I really put it to the test today.

Correct, I am aware that the stock motor will run on 48volts.
After running it all day, the overall performance was better than it has been.
But not satisfactory IMO.

Thanks huntinghawk for your advice.
Since the batteries are only a week old and I am a distributor of them, I am gonna swap them out with 8volts, along with purchasing a new solenoid.

Couple of questions that I have though.

1. The diode and resistor that is located on solenoid now, Will they need to be different? Or reuse them?

2. Charger for 48 volts. Is there something I can do to the existing 36v charger or do I need to just get a replacement for it as well?

The experts will have to answer your first question.

Answer to the second is start shopping around for a 48v charger & make sure its for an EZ GO. CC one won't work. Check for the for for sale on this forum as well as Craig's list. I found one for $100 though was 150 mile round trip to get it.

Another option is to add two more 6v batteries instead of going to six eights.

Did anyone have any idea here? Got my 8 volts batteries today, all I need to do is change out solenoid to 48 volt one, which I have here.
