Re: 89 club car stops after 4 or 5 holes
I would suspect a fuel delivery problem first... I'd start by checking the pulse line going to the fuel pump and make sure it's not clogged or full of oil/water. Might be worth checking out the fuel pump as well to make sure it's pumping like it should. Take the fuel line off the carb and place it in a mason jar and start turning over the motor. If you aren't getting adequate fuel flow into the jar then it's probably just running out of gas.
Could be an ignitor/coil issue, but those will usually creep up with heat and generally within a few minutes of running. A golf cart will run quite a while on the gas that is in the bowl of the carburetor. |

Re: 89 club car stops after 4 or 5 holes
I had a problem like this before with my '87 and a carburetor swap cured it. But I would try some of the other things people have mentioned as well. Did you do the coil test I posted?

Maybe there's a trunk monkey hiding on hole 4 and he's closing the fuel valve so it run out when you get to the next hole.
Check spark. That's just about enough drive time for an ignition part to warm up and quit working until the engine cools off a while. |

Re: 89 club car stops after 4 or 5 holes
Could be a lot of things. From what you describe it sounds like a weak battery/loose SG belt to me.
Does it slowly turn over, squeak, squeal? |

Re: 89 club car stops after 4 or 5 holes
When I pulled the battery the positive post was loose. Bolt very short. I got the battery tested and passed load test. I reinstalled the battery and then pressure washed the engine compartment. Ton of dust and crud. I drove the cart off and on for at least 2 mi. without any issue. Hoping that cleaning all the dirt from the engine and fixing battery post will help. I think that it has to be restricted fuel issue. Engine was definitely warmed up so I don't think it is ig coil. Starter gen belt is now new and spins well without squealing at all. My son will take it out soon. He is not confident. lol

Re: 89 club car stops after 4 or 5 holes
8 full round with no issues and now same issues again. Thinking weak fuel pump? Or sucking air into carb. I don't think it is ignition coil. Any thoughts?
Frustrated. |
