'91 Ezgo Marathon Engine Identification

I'm new to the gas golf carts and just purchased a '91 gas Marathon. Could someone please help me determine where to look on the cart for the engine type, size etc?

If the drive belt runs side to side, it is a 244 Robin 2 stroke. If the drive belt runs front to back, the motor is a 295 Robin 4 stroke

not exactly my friend. If it has 2 spark plugs then it's a 295 4 stroke, if it has 1 then it's a 2 stroke. yes they had both with belts running front to back.

That is good to know, cuz I was repeating what I have read here many times before. Was the 244 the only 2 stoke used?

The only reason I would ask about belt orientation is to narrow down the year of a cart or to find out what rear and driven clutch are in it. the side to side means it's a 2 stroke, steel sheave driven clutch and a ring & pinion rear

The pg1s are a different size,(smaller) don't remember exactly. The 2 & 3 are the same size I do believe.
The last few years of the 2 stroke had belts running front to back. They basically used the electric cart rear with a driven clutch on it.
