Question G9 Sticky clutch

Hi All. Hoping someone with experience can help me figure out the problem with my Yamaha G9. It appears that sometimes the drive clutch is sticking. When I hit the gas, it squeals and after a couple of seconds, it final turns. The belt doesn't appear to be slipping. When I turn the drive clutch by hand, it turns fairly easily until I get to a certain point and it becomes extremely hard to turn it by hand. Since we can't post videos here, I've attached a link to my video on YouTube showing you what is happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Rich

Easiest job I've seen all day.... your starter/generator belt is just a little too loose (the skinny belt). I wish they were all this easy.

Just remove the airbox to make access, it's only 2 "10mm bolts" & a Phillips screw away, and quick pliers for the little hose clamp to remove. Then, a 17mm socket & 17mm wrench for the "big bolt" at the bottom. Theres a "clamp nut" that's 12mm to free the starter/generator to pivot it tighter on its "slotted adjuster". That will allow you to pivot it slightly farther away from the engine & make the belt tighter. A new OEM belt from yamaha only costs about $9, and might be a good idea. (But I totally understand, I ran mine until it had no hope of life left in it).

the squeal is the starter/gen belt. I'd replace it and get it super tight.

Thumbs up Re: G9 Sticky clutch

Thanks everyone. I've just ordered a starter/generator belt and a drive belt. Figured, I should replace both while I'm at it. Thanks again.
