1989 club car rear end help
Hello all!! I have a problem with my cart and I am hopeful someone can shed some light on my dilema......My cart is a 1989 gas club car DS with a 6"lift and larger tires......its in great shape and I got it for $950. My problem is that I bought it from a guy that said it needed the "rear end" fixed and that the problem only takes 4 bolts to fix. When driving the cart, it sounds like a roller coaster "click clack click clack" but does not have any driving/turning/braking/speed maintaining issues. So, can someone please tell me whats wrong with my buggman? thanks

Re: 1989 club car rear end help
I have a 80's CC and here is what I would do. Place rear of car on jackstands and have someone push the petal while you lay on the floor and feel and listen for the location of the noise. The axles have a sealed bearing on the wheel end and a roller bearing on the differential end. Then drain the gear lube from the bottom plug on the differential and look for any metal pieces in the lube. If there is metal in the lube then you probably have a diff problem. The diff takes 22 ozs. 80-90wt. GL-5 gear lube. It might be something rubbing in the brake drum area or the transmission above the differential itself but if you can locate just where the noise is coming from then you have a place to look. Transmission holds 20 oz. of same gear oil and has a drain and fill plug also. Good luck.
