not getting gas
I have a 97 CC, The float was stuck so I replaced the carb. and when I started it it ran for a min. and then lost power and smokes. It looks like there is little gas being pumped through the fuel pump. Does anyone know how to check the pump or know what else this could be.
Thanks G I Y |

Re: not getting gas
Check to make sure your breather hose on the tank is not clogged or blocked.

Re: not getting gas
1. Remove the vacuum hose on the underside of the fuel pump and crank the engine in Maintenance Mode. You should feel the suction created by the vacuum hose.
2. Remove the fuel pump and check it for a torn diaphragm. Clean it carefully and thoroughly. Reinstall. 3. Remove the fuel filter. Blow through it. You should feel a very easy and steady flow of air. If it is clogged, the effort to blow through the filter will be difficult. Replace it. They're cheap. 4. Blow through the fuel hose into the tank. If there is a clog in that line the effort will be difficult. 5. Take the spark plug out. Plug it into the plug wire and ground the plug on the engine. Crank the engine in Maintenance Mode. If the plug is good, there will be constant spark. Is the plug dry? If not, is it soaked w/gas? Oil? Is there spark? Strong or weak? 6. If the plug is dry, pour a little gasoline into the plug hole. Replace the plug in the engine block and tighten. Pour some gasoline down the fuel line between the fuel pump and carb, holding the line upright. Crank the engine in Maintenance Mode. The engine should start and continue to run until the fuel is exhausted in the line. Any of these is a clue to your difficulty. |
