chop top

i just picked up a 6x10 cargo trailer, price was right, so i could not pass it up.
the problem is my cart wont fit in with the top on,
was thinking about taking a saw-all, and cutting the post, and adding a sleeve for the post to slip back into,
has anybody run across this problem?
if so how did you solve the problem?
pics would be greatly appreciated.

Hello ProjectClubCar, There is a really good post with photos of someone that modified their top to fit into a lower trailer. It really looked nice. Maybe someone can point you to the post or you may have to search.

Almost did this to a Yamaha myself one time. Should work fine but you windsheild will not fit flush unless you bend the posts outward a bit which may take care of itself if using a sleeve. Also consider the height of your windsheild. May have to trim it as well. Get us some pic's.

Actually... I've chopped the top on one of my buddies carts!

He bought a "Rubbermaid" shed and the door opening was too low for him to park his cart in!
I made two suggestions... cut the header on the shed and hinge it so it flips up so he can drive his cart in...
OR... chop the top so it's removable, and then he can drive his cart in.
He chose to chop the top! (with a brand new shed and all!)

What we did was:

We... ummm... I cut through the canopy supports halfway down from the top,
added a 6" long square, solid aluminum stock, (1/2' for the front supports, 5/8" for the rear supports) and drilled and bolted them into place.

So now he can unbolt, and slide off the canopy, and drive his cart into the shed!

NOW... It "sounds" like a neat fix for what he needed...
BUT... his wife complains that the canopy rattles "to beat h*ll" when driving on even the slightest of rough roads! (his problem, not mine!)
And, it's o.k. to slide off, but, it almost takes two people to put it back on! but, at least it worked for him!

I've been looking for a Toy Hauler, and my main concern is the height of the opening!
I also saw the "drop top" video from one of our sponsors... (but the heck if I can find it now!)
and I'm TOTALLY interested in doing that with my cart when the time comes!

(and NO! I'm not going with a "sport windshield"! )
