Upgrading to lithium battery
Hi,
Just to check, I am planning to upgrade 2013 club car precedent to lithium battery in my golf course. However, management have asked me to answer few questions on this upgrade, 1) Upgrading to lithium battery will greatly reduce the buggy’s weight (which is approximately 300 pounds), will this increase the possibilities of accident happened as the central gravity is greatly reduced. 2) As lithium battery have higher voltage as compared to lead acid battery (which is approximately 58V). Will it cause damage to the controller? Thanks for help, deeply appreciated. Richmond |

Re: Upgrading to lithium battery
1- no, does not make cart more unstable.
2- Not if you are getting batteries designed for golf carts. |

However, it does greatly increase the ride stiffness.

Re: stiffness
I have a Club Car Precedent ('12). When I went to Lithium it rode like a stagecoach. So I removed all four shocks and now just ride on the single leaf springs. BIG DIFFERENCE and for the better. |

2 questions though, if I could: 1) Is the improved ride off-road, or on paved streets (pot holes, expansion joints - smaller, jolt-type bumps...) 2) Is your cart lifted (if so, factory or aftermarket)? As to the weight reduction using lithium, I'll echo what was said above - yes, it will make the ride a bit harsher. I'll also say this - I looked at a brand new Club Car Onward Lithium lifted that just rolled off the truck from Club Car, last week, and they still are using the same springs my 2018 has (that was not lithium from the factory). So the new factory ones are riding rougher than they probably should (rougher than the LA ones, anyway). |

As I have installed a sample for testing few days ago, the lithium battery work miraculously. We do feel that the buggy lighter and more powerful when going uphill. However, the management still have doubt that: 1) they "feel" it is unstable & not safe while turning corner as the weight has been greatly reduced. Appreciate if you could give me some ideas on how to explain to them. 2) May I know what is the maximum voltage allowable for curtis controller 1515-5201 & 1515-5206? Thanks Regards, Richmond |

Re: Upgrading to lithium battery
A gas engine cart weights significantly less -does it feel unstable as well?

Re: Upgrading to lithium battery
I have two Lithium Yamaha carts and they are not unstable at 20mph. Ride is a bit harsh but eliminating 300 pounds of batteries should not make it unstable. It's actually about the weight of the gas version. Any cart can be flipped if you try very hard.

Re: Upgrading to lithium battery
You may also want to compare the benefits of lithium vs FLA's. And also the downside.
Benefits: --Almost zero maintenance --Lighter weight....that may or may not matter for a course --No need to charge every time it's used. It's not mandatory. --Longer run times\distances than FLA's Downside: --Need for a BMS that will keep pack balanced AND prevent over\under charging. (Many after market drop in packs have a BMS) --Stiffer ride due to weight loss. (This can be fixed though) --Once a cell in a pack is overcharged or undercharged the cell is toast and must be replaced. No "do-overs". Prolly more plus's and minus's .....but that's off the top of my head |

Re: Upgrading to lithium battery
I would add to the Benefits - Lasts much longer (2-3X is my guess)
Add to Downside - Costs much more initially. |
