EZGO 72 Volt golf cart

Has anyone seen the new EZGO 72 volt golf cart? I was in a dealership in Lake Havasu this weekend and as I walked past this cart, it had a slip on it that said 2017 72 volt golf cart. Was about $9249 Based on the Express series. Asked him about it and he said they had one turned up and it did about 45. But they cut them down to about 22 mph for liability issues. He says they built it for the run time. There are not many out at this time. He had 2. Hmmmmm, might be a new cart in my future.

About 6 months ago I saw a prototype AC drive 72 volt EZ. Never saw it driven but was told it would move.

Yep, but it has 12v batteries. Ezgo is trying to get us to take em, nah. We are still dealing with the tail end of the Rxv 12v warranty nightmare..... Won't get fooled again (by the 12v warranty).

PM me too please. EZs been tryin to get them in here and I'm hesitant. Pricey buggers too. I'm not going to fall for their greatest thing since sliced bread sales pitch again. I learned the hard way with them. I won't do it again. I feel they wont sell very well due to their MSRP.

12v class battery has a high failure rate. The problem Is that their overall lower capacity means they are drawn down more every use, which reduces their overall life. Everyone seems to expects a 5-6 year battery life, but around here, 3-4 is more like it for 12v's.

I think once you understand the capacity discharge limit you can get very good performance from the lighter pack. Since the problem lies in deeply discharging the pack. It's a simple matter of outfitting the carts with SOC meters educating the owners.

This is pure speculation and supposition since I've never seen an RXV, however I can read battery specs and I'm halfway decent at crunching numbers.

As I see it, the 12V battery problem the RXV's had was due to the storage capacity of a 4 x 12V battery pack being too low for the application rather than the 12V batteries themselves. Going to a 6 x 8V may have pack cured most of the battery issues, but 8V batteries aren't any better made than 12V batteries.

With T-1275 batteries, a 4 x 12V pack has 7.2kWh of storage and with T-875 batteries a 6 x 8V pack has 8.2kWh of storage. A standard 36V battery pack (T-105) has 8.1kWh of storage, so the resultant range would be about the same, or better since the AC drive of the RXV is more efficient. (See attached chart)

On the other hand, a 6 x 12V (72V) battery pack using T-1275 batteries will have 10.8kWh of storage, so the range/run-time will be roughly 132% of a RXV/Express with a 6 X 8V (48V) battery pack. That ought to make the 72V Express less prone to being over discharged.

Of course, that is only theory and may not match reality.

We have no problems with Crown batts.

Users who run 18-20 miles have shorter batt life
