Default Differences between 2000 PDS and other newer PDS?

All,

Hoping to just get a quick run down on a few things.

I know that the steering is different, but is it better?

What else might be different? I just purchased two twin 03 PDS Carts and I was wondering if it would be wise for me to migrate to an 03 from my 2000. Obviously my lift wouldn't fit.

2000 was abastard year. The real PDS came out in 2001.

They were not DCS and not PDS as we all came to know them. It was a 1 yr production that had many problems and was scrapped. The system was designed to correct some flaws in the DCS cart but it was quickly obvious the patches and addons made an unnecessarily complicated drive system. The next yr PDS remains a favorite today although production ended in around 2012. The successor is the TXT48 which is simply a 48v version with a bigger motor.
I suspect the TXT48 motor & 6/8v batteries may give a PDS cart a great upgrade with a XCT controller....Hmmm, I sense a project.

I don't physically see a difference other than the steering column. Is the controller somehow different?

1. In the early model year 2000, the PDS had a F/R switch that looked similar to the late production DCS F/R switch, rather than the dash mounted F/R rocker switch used in later production.

See attached pictures, #1 is an early PDS and #2 is a late DCS. The mechanical/electrical difference is in the PDS, only one switch was closed in F and only one switch closed in R, while with the DCS, only one switch was closed in F and both switches closed in is R.

2. The controller is the same, just the F/R switch and the F/R switch end of the wiring harness were different.

-------
I also added the parts manual for a 2000 PDS. It shows both the earlier and later type PDS F/R switches and indicates that the 73326-G02 controller was used in both. The stock controller that was in my 2008 PDS was a 73326-G07, so there were several upgrades in the first eight years of the PDS production run and a couple more after 2008.

My 2000 PDS has the same F&R switch as these 03 PDS's, guess mine would have been built later in the year than.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but I believe EZGO went to the dash mounted F/R rocker switch in May-2000 and changed from the frame mounted Pitman Arm type steering the the axle mounted Rack and Pinion type steering in Jan-2001.

Other than the steering and maybe the revision level of the controller, your 2000 and 2003 are pretty close to identical twins. (Unless one has factory installed options)

Thanks JohnnieB.

One of the 03s that I bought has a busted steering rack. I'm seriously considering turning it into a trailer.

It is already has toe-bar steerable front wheels, so it would make a nice four-wheel wagon.
