2000 ezgo txt series? Upgrades
Hello I'm new here. I just picked up a 2000 ezgo txt 36v. I think it's a series because it has the f&r switch behind legs and no tow switch. Looks to have 4 gauge wires already. I'm trying to figure out the best route for me to get a little more power for least amount of money. I live in the Charleston SC area so most terrain is flat, but our neighborhood has a few small hills but 90% flat. I have already added 6inch lift and 12 inch wheels with 23 inch tires. If I kept it 36 v what can I do to get 25 mph. My neighborhood speed is 25 and would like to hit that speed at least. I use it to take the girls to the neighborhood pool and park. I have about 4-5 people on it at least 3 at all times? I'm really confused on what direction I should take. Any ideas would be great. Thank you in advance

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but to get that cart to do what you want you're going to have to spend a few bucks. These carts were originally designed to haul a couple of guys around the course at a relatively slow speed. There's plenty of examples of guys getting the performance you're after, but you'll probably need to upgrade most of the drive system.
The easiest thing to do would probably be to email Scottyb at cartsunlimited, tell him EXACTLY what you have now and what you're trying to get to. You've pretty well stated your goals here, but put that same information into an email to him. Here's his website: http://www.cartsunlimited.net In the meantime, you can read a bunch of helpful info on his site. Im by no means any expert, but if your cart is currently stock, you're probably looking at controller, cables, solenoid, and motor. An upgrade to 48v may be required a well. Scotty responds to emails quickly and I'm sure some of the experts will chime in here too. |

Re: 2000 ezgo txt series? Upgrades
A stock TXT series drive has a top speed of 14MPH on a hard level surface with two people onboard, which means the motor is spinning at 3252RPM.
To get the stock motor to spin faster, you will have to increase the applied voltage or decrease the mechanical load. Carrying more people increases mechanical load. Taller tires increases mechanical load, but might increase cart speed. Theoretically, the 23" tall tires will increase the cart speed by 27.8%, which is 17.9MPH, but they also reduce the torque where rubber meets road by 21.7%, so the motor will no longer reach 3252RPM when powered by a 36V battery pack, so cart's top speed will be slower than theoretical. Probably 16 to 17 MPH, unless the tires are the low pressure off-road type (<10PSI Max inflation pressure), which is additional mechanical loading due to the increased rolling resistance. To get 25MPH with 23" tall tires and stock (12.44:1) gears, you'll have to spin the motor at 4545RPM. Upping the battery pack voltage to 48V ups the stock motor's RPM by 33.3% to 4335RPM, which is 23.8MPH on 23" tires. Upping the voltage by 33.3% increase torque by 33.3% also, which more than offsets the 21.7% torque loss from the taller tires, so the actual cart speed may be slightly faster than 23.8MPH. |

Breezy....my cart is a little newer but still the same drive system (series) and I wanted to do exactly what you did.....I had however just bought a new set of batteries so I wanted/needed to stick with 36v.....I had the lift, and the wheels and tires on the cart when I bought it....so I did the rest of the up grade PLUS a high speed motor....and I currently can run all day long at 25 mph......and have a 27 mile range running those speeds. You can see everything in my drives system in my sig below.

If I find a used or messed up or someone selling a 48 volt controller off a ezgo would it work in mine. Can I swap. Do I have to use a certain year?

Re: 2000 ezgo txt series? Upgrades
Like if I had 6 8 volts batteries and say a friend had a 48 volt cart that had a bad motor. Could I wire in his controller and solenoid into my 36v

Depends on the controller. Is it a series? Is it stock or after-market? Are you upgrading to 48 volts? If it's a series, it "may" work at 36 volts. The solenoid on a series cart is not connected to the controller, so sounds like it might be a sepex.
