Default pack voltages jumping all over the place when the pedal is pressed?? help

i was checking things over on this 2003 txt im having problems with and while i checked the pack voltage and it was 38, then when i hit the gaS pedal it goes to 18, then to 20, 25, 36, 38. jumping voltages every second that the pedal is down. it doesnt jump down at all only up. ive done is several times and always the same result. it will move the tires for 1 second then the pack drops way down and all over the place and everything dies. what the hell causes this?? i just installed a rebuilt controller because i didnt have any movement at all with the stock controller. thanks in advance guys im puzzled

You have one or more bad batteries.

They are brand new and are showing 6.3 or better in each of them, I haven’t load tested them though. The owner said he started having problems 6 hours or so after putting all new battery’s in. So I guess it could be. Why would the whole pack jump around if it was just one or two?

Its rare but new batteries can take a dump pretty quickly. They are probably under warranty so. It’s probably not necessary to load test them at this point but you can. It drops out immediately and goes back to 38 once you release pedal so you know it’s batteries

figured it out. i never messed with the cables because the owner said they were brand new and they looked good. well heres the thing he paid to put new cable ends on, but used the same corroded cables. they were so bad on the inside that they were crunchy and brittle. i knew it as soon as i bent one of the cables and it was breaking like a twig on the inside of the insulation. thats deff the first time ive ever heard of that. funny thing is the ends were new and they shrink wrapped them on and everything, they looked brand new like he said. he probably saved all of 15 dollars not switching the cables out and just cutting off the old ends. thanks again guys.

Yeah that’s nasty. Leaving crunchy old cables around and just crimping new ring terminals on them? That’s a first for me lol that’s just plain wrong...

Yea I’ve been a full time cart mechanic and couldn’t believe it. The cables looked picture perfect and the customer told me they were new when they had the new battery’s installed so I never even thought about it. It was puzzling to say the least. Oh well on to the next one! Thanks everybody for the help
