Default Lifted RXV Unstable

I have a 2008 RXV, 6 inch Jakes lift. Tires are 234X10.5X12. The cart seems unstable unless driving very slow. By unstable I mean it seems that I have trouble controlling it. Theres no shimmy or wobble in the front end. I have changed tires and installed a new hub. My family complains that they are scared to drive it because of this unstability. I believe it is caused by the lift kit and or tires. Do you think going to a smaller tire and wheel would at least help? Hope I have described the problem adequately. All replies appreciated.

My guess is the front end is out of alignment. Check the toe in and adjust it to 1/8" toe in. It will drive like a new cart.

Thanks for that. But I have no idea how to do that. Is this something I need to take to the dealer?

Was the lift recently installed? If so take it back to who installed it for a toe in adjustment. When a lift is installed a toe in check and adjustment is always required.

This might help....

Yep, take it back to the place that did the work and ask them to adjust it.

The store I bought it from has gone out of business but I'll find another. Thanks.

One other question: I'm thinking of just getting smaller tires. Is there any way to determine the tire height from a tire whose specs are listed as 205/50-10??

Thanks Again

listed specs for most off road carts (or atv) tires are inaccurate-i have seen up to an 1.5" variance, each way, especially in off road style tires...it is up to the manufacturer to determine the conditions at which the tire is measured-and there is not an absolute slandered for this...

Adding a lift kit raises the center of gravity, resulting in less stability. Increasing tire size results in more tire movement from the existing amount of play in the suspension. While the degree of movement is unchanged, that same degree of movement with a larger tire results in more distance moved by that tire. These combined "upgrades" result in handling issues that increase with speed. Lifted carts and large tires look good, but our carts were not engineered for going overboard in this way. Up to 20.5" tires will usually fit without a lift kit, some minor trimming of the inner wheel well plastic on the rear wheel opening might be required if your rear springs are tired or you have a rear seat and carry passengers. HD rear springs may help with that.
