Default Re: Cart Smells?

Ok, I tightened/ checked all connections on batteries, motor, etc, all good, I looked for rubbed bare wires or other signs of shorting, none found, battery cables brand new 2 gauge all others are original, I checked electrolyte level in all batteries, all good, voltage on all batteries 6.1 or 6.2, I checked voltage drop on each battery while climbing the same hill, lowest reading was 5.4v highest 5.5v, ambient temp 35 degrees (warm for this time of year) with about 2" of heavy snow on ground, I was wondering if the smell could be ozone produced by the motor or other component? Thanks again for your help

Default Re: Cart Smells?

I had a cart that was not running. It would only nudge forward and then shudder. If I kept the pedal down for more than a few seconds I would smell the batteries cooking.

All the batteries individually tested fine with my dvm but the pack voltage would drop to 20 under a load. I finally tested each battery starting with #1 and then added each battery into the series and tested the pack under load. I believe it was when I added the 4th battery in the series that the voltage started getting weird and not adding up to the correct pack voltage. This battery was replaced and the cart was returned to service.

Seemed that the bad battery could produce passable results when only measuring between it's own posts but could not pass the voltage from the batteries when measured in the series.
