Post Re: Lights won't come on...

Sharp looking cart - nice shade of green too.
Sounds like batteries are working if cart runs
though keeping it fully charged will keep them working longer.

Are your lights 16v? Two batteries x8v equals 16v.
Besides checking the fuse you should also check the light switch.
It may have failed or have a loose connection.

While your cart is running good now except for the lights
here are a few things to think about for the future....

Looking at the picture it looks like one or more connections are 'upside down'.
You should always have high current connectors closest to the battery.
The smaller low current lugs will limit your current flow if they are on first.

The high current cables (the blue wires) look small in thickness.
Can you tell from the labeling what gauge they are? Maybe 6ga?
A thicker wire will conduct better with less loss.

The lugs at the end of the cables look like they are crimped.
Are they soldered as well? Best connection is crimped, soldered, and covered.
Bare connections are subject to corrosion and overheating.

If you want to get more power with your setup you should think about
replacing the high current cables with heavier gauge wire with proper ends.

The two batteries that your lights are hooked to
will have a different load/use pattern than the others
and will probably age faster.

You could do one of two things to help even out the aging;
one - move the connections around, so different batteries get used,
pick a different pair of batteries each time
two - get a 48v converter so that all batteries share the load

Thank you JohnnieB! I'll just leave the water alone. I only ride down to the duck pond, get mail and take my dogs for a ride, so the batteries don't drain on a regular basis. I'm keeping an eye on them today to see how they do.

By the way, is it OK to leave the charger plugged in 24/7? I'd hate to burn that up.

BTW - I went back and looked at the battery picture again.
The black box in the lower corner has a big toggle switch on it.
Be sure to flip that switch to the Tow/Maint side when working on cart.

That black box is your controller (PDS - I think) and the switch protects it.
Do you have a Forward/Reverse switch on dash or under seat?
EDIT - I just looked at your cart pic again - I see a plug under the seat
so your F/R must be on the dash. Check the stickies (Red Threads) on the forum for details.

If you short something out or try towing the cart while the switch is at Run
you can destroy the controller. Think 'Ouch' with a lots of $$$$.

The 48V TXT has a 16V to 12V converter.

I have no idea why EZGO didn't use a 48V to 12V converter.

If I had one, I install a 48V to 12V and drain the pack equally with the accessories.

Thanks remac, I thought the green was a bit bold.. but I talked myself into it because I live on a few acres, and it could be construed as a "John Deere" color. How's that for rational? LOL!

My lights are like these: https://shop.ezgo.com/products/Stand...d-Terrain.html Unless it says it on the wires, I don't know. I know I watched a you tube where the man said the lights only need 12v. If I have 16v (2 batteries) They could possibly burn out faster.

Besides checking the fuse you should also check the light switch.
It may have failed or have a loose connection.

Does the cup holder plastic pop out? I wasn't sure how to get at that switch. Honestly, if I got to it, I'd probably just stare at it. That's a whole new thread. :-)

I just checked the batteries.. they are still charging. If it bubbles out, which t probably will do, I'll clean it up with that bs solution and rinse.

Yes, F/R is on the dash.

I'll certainly check on the wire gauge.

Thank ya'll for your patience!

I'm not entirely sure what a TXTE is.

The cart picture you posted, looks like an Express L4 or S4, or maybe a S4-HO, so I guess TXTE is EZGO shorthand for TXT Express.

Plug your cart's serial number in this site and it ought to tell you exactly what it is: http://www.shopezgo.com/www404.aspx?...ialNumber.html

The S4-HO has a different controller, but the control wiring will be the same, as will nearly all the other information in the manual.

Yes - the cup holder pops out, makes it easy to get behind panel
and do all sorts of dastardly deeds...
