Series Ezgo golf cart will run in forward but no reverse

I am working on a series ezgo, battery pack voltage 38 volts, no reverse buzzer but micro switch working. The cart will run in forward most of the time but reverse did work sometimes but now has quit. Solenoid working, all 4 points on controller check proper voltage. I have checked f/r switch for power on both sides and power is there. I suspect controller but need to be sure before I replace it. thanks for any help.

It could be the forward micro switch intermittently giving you trouble. It engages your activation circuit. Make sure it closes when you put it in reverse. If your cart will go forward your problem would not be in the controller. It would have to be in the activation circuit or the f&r switch or cables.

The only thing the reverse micro switch does is engage the buzzer and the 1/2 speed reverse.

Does cart have a Pot-box throttle or ITS?

Sounds like the cart is or was running in both direction, just not every time.

If solenoid clicks when pedal is pushed and cart doesn't run, the problem is in the high current circuit.

If the solenoid doesn't click when pedal is pushed, the problem is in the solenoid activation circuit.

thanks guys. I found the problem. the solenoid was clicking but not always engaging. Replaced it and cleaned the forward reverse switch. works fine now just have to not overthrow when putting it in reverse. Had heavy handed shifting and it will go just a little to far and contacts not perfectly lined up. will have to replace the f/r switch in a few months at the most. Just saving the customer a little money for right now.
