Controller to Motor Secondary Wiring Replacement?

I'm replacing all the power cables (what I'll call primary) on my 48 volt DS with 2 AWG welding cable. My question is the smaller 10 AWG (what I'll call secondary) wires between the controller and motor F1 & F2 connections. I have plans in the future to upgrade the controller to a higher amperage torque beast and was wondering if I should consider increasing the size of these 2 (secondary) wires while I'm replacing cables? My stock CC controller has small connections and I do not know the amp draw on the F1 & F2 circuits. Suggestions?

No need to replace those wires, the current on the motor field windings are typically less than 20 amps.

I seen this question this morning. The standard answer has always been no. They have been always thought of as low current wires. Like Sergio said less than 20 amps. With the new high current controllers coming out like the XCT48500 I got the field map is rated for 50amps. So I thought to my self WTH it would only take me a few hours to change out those wires and fix a few other things while I'm in there. Well I got finished and took it for a ride on the hill climb. I few days earlier I did the same ride with my GPS and it was mostly 18 MPH maybe every once in a while hit 19. Today I got 20/21mph and maybe hit 22 occasionally. With my seat of the pants accelerometer I could definitely feel a difference off the line. So what is the moral to the story? If you are going to all the trouble and expense of upgrading your controller and motor why take the chance of leaving some speed and torque on the table just because didn't thing you needed to change two field wires. YMMV

In general there is no way to get more current to the field. If you put full voltage on it, you will only get so many amps. More field current == more torque and LESS speed. The smaller cables are fine.
