Battery water maintenance
How often should the batteries be filled with distilled water, and what is the best way to add water to the batteries? Turkey Baster?

Re: Battery water maintenance
I was actually joking about the turkey baster, but COOL!!!! How do I know when I have added enough water? I haven't yet popped the top off yet to look into a catr's batteries. it's my first cart.

1/4" to 1/2" above the plates.

Re: Battery water maintenance
I have a single-point watering system but it's more trouble than it's worth because you're never sure exactly how much water went in (I overfilled the first time I used it). It's easier (& more reliable) to just take the tops off and check them manually even if it does take a few minutes more.

Re: Battery water maintenance
My battery waterer consists of a dollar store plastic bottle with a nozzle on it ... could be used for ketchup, mustard, vinegar or for watering cart batteries. See attached photo of this highly technical device.
I try to check my electrolyte level every 4 or 5 battery charges. I also keep the level only 1/4" to 1/2" maximum above the battery plates ... any higher level and I find that I tend to get some minor puddling of battery acid after charging as it vents out of the SpeedCaps on my US Batteries. |

Re: Battery water maintenance
That works good for my 2 middle batteries, but not the 2 outside. They are partially blocked by the body so I use my old trusty tranny funnel and give a 2 second pour to each cell and that gets me at my needed 1/4"-1/2" level...

Re: Battery water maintenance
It's OK to just use a jug with a good pouring spout and a steady hand.
I think one of the best things is a laboratory wash bottle. You can aim the spout anywhere and the soft bottle is squeezable to deliver the distilled water. I used one of those for years. It has gone missing in my moves so I must get another one. This one is $1.89 with free shipping in the US - https://www.amazon.com/Qinlee-Scient...ds=wash+bottle |
