I'm not the most mechanically inclined, but I was wondering about that today. In the second video the drive belt has been taken off.

Sounds like a piston slap from here. I believe the cylinder heads in these motors get slightly oblong front to back over time, incrementally allowing the piston more room to "dance". The piston skirt eventually starts banging sporadically against the inside of the cylinder wall until it gets louder and does it all the time. This kind of noise would be difficult to reproduce from the workbench.

You could have your cylinder head bored out by a machinist to 0.25 or 0.50 mm and get a new, bigger piston to correct this problem.

Again I'm only guessing based on your video, you should look for signs of blunt trauma on the piston skirt and the lower half of the inside cylinder wall.

Thank you Craig! My buddy who is mechanically inclined Had me check by putting the piston head inside the cylinder to see how well the rings fit. There was about a quarter of an inch gap between each end of the ring. With this be an indicator?

The rings should fit SNUG against the wall and in the grooves of the piston, this is how it SEALS.

If you pulled the piston look a the skirt. it should be clean of any marks as it floats in space or should. if you see signs of scratches, dings, etc. then it is hitting and rubbing. also should see some scuffs and marks on the Cylinder wall as a result.

One question that I didn’t see is when it is making the noise does engine temperature have anything to do with it? Is it only when hot or cold, or all the time?

Did you pop the rod cap to see what the bearing looks like? Also might be worth while to see if there is any play in the wrist pin.
