Ok guys stll no progress on this problem,thanks scottyb for all the effort.Question:is the ohms reading pretty much standard on the differant types of pots?I read post for a wiper style pot stating reading should be 5k to 0,mine is the reostat style reading 6k to1k.Checked new one I have for the 2000 regen cart and it was 6k to 0,so thinking pot not part of the problem?Thanx to sticky I have a shop manual coming from the left coast and maybe I'll quit with the stupid questions.Just don't want to throw money at it and be wrong.Dave

Ok got the book today,after running the tests all I can seem to find is in checking controller output the controller does not have 48v capacitor voltage,inital hook up 31.1v but full throttle is 50.6v.disconnect batts and watch it drop like a rock down to about 6v in no time with out horn drain or anything.Controller input little low49.8 from batt pack total of 50.6v.At this point I'm thinking controller,low capacitor voltage indicate bad controller? In the automobile world a slow dc motor would be a bad ground,and the controller supplies the neg and how much.Wat cha think guys am I on the right track ?

Also if it is the controller,would like suggestions on what controller would be best.Cart is stock except 6" A Arm lift and 22's.Thanx Dave

Well I guessing that the manual ScottyB sent also told U in the troubleshooting tree what to do next
after a specific test fails. Here is what I have for comparison of Motors vs. Controllers. All motors cannot handle the power from the big controllers > 500 amp. So unless you are also upgrading the motor stay < 500 amp. I would also Strongly recommend a Cable upgrade to replace all #6 cables with #4 grade welding cables. |

Thanx Garry,troubleshooting tree said no out put bad controller,but it has the output but does not have capacitor charge,no mention of that in manual.Hope Scottyb weighs in on this.Dave

If the manual toubleshooting points to a bad controller then that is the problem? You have checked everything else? Right? Solenoid and micros? Cables? F&R? Then it is the controller.

Ok guys,96 48v is now a go.it was controller,as I tried to say the other day,the controller checked out as far as the trouble shooting tree,had input and full batt pack voltage output but capacitor voltage was low 31v and would drain itself.I want to thank you all for the help,now it's on to the salt water swimmer regen,going to have too much money in it but I look at as the cost of education.
