I guess you could call whomever you bought the parts from and ask them to recheck the #s.
Are you certain the shoes are setting against the backing plate?

the shoes are against the backing plate and the correct ones as well as the rest of the parts according to the place i got them from. could i have a bent axle? the guy i got this thing from put the ringer so it could be bent.

wow guess i forgot about this. yes i got the brakes all worked out after a lot of frustration. the culprit in my situation was the slides. there are three parts to them and the one had a nick in the metal and wasn't letting the shoe return to center after they were applied and released.

and you know i just realized i did not say thanks to all that helped me figure this out.

the one thing i did learn and will remember is that these brakes are mechanical and that makes the operation of each individual part that much more important to keep maintained. one of the most overlooked areas on carts i think

Thanks. Today I am going to check the sliders, cable tension since the lift kit and general cleanup/adjust.

One question I could not find an answer for in the various 'brake threads' and could use advice on:

How tight should the nut on the back of the holding plate which secures the 'auto' adjust mechanism be?

I note if it is too tight the mechanism and shoes cannot slide, too loose, the mechanism and arm attached to the brake cables is sloppy.

Congrats on fixing yours, and thanks for any insight on mine.

honestly what i discovered after the fact was that the nut that holds the adjuster in was either a locking nut or the bolt was peened on the end, not really sure cause it was all in such bad shape. i replaced the nuts on mine with some nuts i had 8mm 1.25 pitch nyloc nut and did see that if you tightened them too much you would have a big problem with the brakes not recentering . now as far as being too loose i did not experience that but basically all i did was tighten the nut till i got the slide tight and would not move then backed it off 1/2 to 3/4 turns till the slide felt free enough to let the brakes recenter.if you cannot get a locking nut use loc-tite now i am not going to claim this is the correct way to do it ,but it has been just fine for me
