G1 "Not Charging"!
Everything is done (for the most part) on this cart. We even took it to the camp this past weekend and it did great except...
The Starter Generator is not charging the battery! We can drive it for quite a while but as soon as the battery is sufficiently week, it just wont start again. Sometimes you can let it sit for a while (30 min's or so) and you can get it to start again. I traced down the wiring, ran continuity test, they were good... I get 12 volts at the "New Battery" until you begin to increase rpm's then it drops down to 9 volts. Replaced the Voltage Regulator and that didn't help. Any ideas? |

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
I went through the same problem with mine. I had access to a new voltage regulator to try but that didn't fix my problem. I finally read about removing the cover on top of the regulator, loosen the 7mm locknut on the adjustment screw, and turned the screw about 3 rounds clockwise. I kept turning the screw a little at a time while checking the voltage at the battery with the cart jacked up and running 3/4 throttle until I was reading 13.5 volts. Don't forget to re-tighten the 7mm locknut. This worked for me and now mine charges even running four 55watt halogen headlights. Also, print out a wiring diagram and trace and check all of the ground wires for a good connection.

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
Yes, I have also done that a few times in the past. Just have a multimeter on hand to monitor the charging rate. You could go up to 14.5v while engine is revved (rear wheels jacked, of course).

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
So the bad news is that I am not getting any different reading after adjusting the screw.
I haven't traced down all of the Ground wires yet (thats next) we'll see if that makes any difference |

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
Can I test The Voltage Coming Directly Out Of The Starter/Generator?

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
OK, So if I am doing it correctly, I placed the Red Lead from the meter in the Bullet receiver coming from the S/G and I placed the Black lead on the negative post on the battery.
It only reads 1.46 volts at 3/4 throttle Reading from the common and red leads at the Voltage Regulator It only shows 9.09 volts At the Battery it reads 12 volts eng. off and at 3/4 throttle it can be any where from 5 to 9 volts. Uuhhhg!!! |

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
Check if voltage regulator is grounded. This is the black wire. Ground to negative batt not to the cart body. Still not charging? Check/clean starter gen. New brushes? May need to be replaced.

Re: G1 "Not Charging"!
To make it simple just check voltage at the batt terminals. Should give same reading if taken anywhere between starter gen and VR. Ensure connections to DF on the starter is firm.
