Default How fast should my 2003 TXT electric go?

I just bought a 2003 EZGO 36 volt electric cart. I just sold a 88 Marathon with a 250 Robin gas engine. The 88 would run circles around this electric as far as speed goes. I can walk faster than this electric. Are the batteries weak? Or what kind of MPH should I be expecting from this cart? Al Z

Attached are the different PDS "Chips" and the speed & amount of regen braking for each.

The PDS controller limits motor RPM to the speed given for each mode.
If you are not getting into the speed range listed for the plug (chip) you have installed in J2 on your controller, something is limiting the amount of current being sent to the motor.

I get 18+MPH with basically a stock cart and a "Freedom" chip, you should get about the same.

Batteries, high current cables and/or solenoid are the likely suspects.

Just by your post you bought a 2003 cart, I would guess the batteries are 03's, just guessing mind you. If they are then your do a set of batteries. 10 year's on a set of batteries is great though. Hope when you payed for it that was taken into account though!

PDS carts stock, average around 14-16 and with a speed chip around 17-19 mph

This morning I put a meter on the batteries after a 15 hour charge, they all read 6.1 to 6.3. I noticed the cables connecting the batteries have a pretty good amount of corrosion on most. Im thinking I will clean up the cables and posts first. Someone mentioned a load test by taping the meter leads to the battery and then watching for voltage drop under load. I'll try that too. A couple questions.

1) what does the guy who makes up the cables charge for a set?
2) if I am forced to buy new batteries where is the best deal?
3) the speed chip installs where?
The guy I bought the cart from has a bunch of carts, says he will provide a set of better batterys. He promised 80% batteries before the sale.

First you have to decide what brand, size (amp/hour or capacity), voltage (only if you're changing or upgrading). Lotsa posts here comparing batteries. Search the site.

Given the size and weight, I don't think anyone does anything besides calling around and buying them locally. Last month, when I bought mine, I found a place that delivered and picked up the old ones. You have to trade in the old ones, or you'll face core charges.

You definitely DON'T want to go here:

That's a link to a "discussion", not a statement by me not to go to Sams!

It plugs into J2 on the controller as printed 4 times on the chart I posted and once in the title of that chart.

The controller is located under the cover with the Run/Row switch on it.

If you just want to know which chip is installed, put it into Diagnostic Mode and the number of beeps will tell you.
The beep code is also on the chart.

To put into Diagnostic Mode:
Run/Tow switch = RUN
Key switch = OFF
Toggle Direction selector from Neutral to Reverse 5 times.
Beep code will occur shortly after 5th time.

To get out of diagnostic mode, toggle Run/Tow switch to TOW - short pause - back to RUN.

Incidentally, 6.1V only says the battery is someplace between 50% & 70% charged while 6.3V says between 80% and 100%.
You'll need to read individual battery voltages to at least two decimal place too determine their State of Charge.
Full charge is 6.37V.
