I'd think the truck bed liner itself would be just fine. It sits in the sun all day long on pickups. The only concern might be if the plastic got hot enough to soften and sag over time.

One thing black will do is get a little hotter than white. Being hotter will allow for more expansion and contraction of the plastic top. If you can, put some sort of stiffener into the top before spraying....1/4" aluminum angle or box tubing. This will keep the top from sagging/rising in the hot sun.

edit: I would do the above for a single layer top. the new tops should be OK but will still expand and contract some

I would think the only +'s might be it won't show dirt or mildew as much and if you just like the color black. I would be more inclined to paint it with something like black Krylon Fusion that it made to bond with plastic. Bedliner coatings is just that - made for metal beds that don't expand or contract that much. A plastic roof may expand or contract and may crack the bed liner or maybe even paint. If you have the short roof maybe just check into getting one in black.

The person before me painted my top black and it doesnt seem to have any problems but I had seen those covers on here (I think) through one of the vendors. I dont remember the cost but they do support the site.

You may have a problem with the weight. I know its bigger but we painted my brothers Jeep top with spray on bedliner and it easily doubled the weight if not more to get the coverage needed.
