Default What to use?

What are you guys using to paint your batt tray? I was thinking an epoxy based paint and rubberized undercoating? Will it hold up?

I used undercoating a couple of years ago. Spent a LOT of time with various wire brushes and wheels, cleaning it up first. It bought me a couple of years, but I think the weight and slight shifting of the batteries was just too much in my case. When I pulled the old batteries last November, they looked kinda like yours, though the corrosion was much more limited, as the undercoating did hold up where there was no mechanical erosion.

This time I used a Rustoleum product the clean up the rust. They make two products, rust reformer, and another. Forget which one I use, but I think it has oxalic acid, and makes for a paintable surface. Then I used a truck bed liner. Time will tell.

I just did mine and I wire brushed it, then used a product called Defender II which is a rust inhibitor and primer in one. Then I painted it with a Rustoleum. Like I said I just did it last weekend so unfortunately I can't tell you how well it is going to last.

I would do as madoc has suggested, make sure it is all clean before you put the spray on liner or anything on, it could rust up under and you would not know. Just my .02

Thanks for the replies. looks like I am on the right track. Haven't thought of the truck bed liner though. That stuff is almost indestructible.

Batt tray cleaned up and painted with hammer paint. Then sprayed with undercoating.
