Throttle position on carb
Hi guys while working on my cart I noticed that I can manually move my throttle (on top of the carb) to a closed position farther than the spring can do it. Is the spring/carb improperly adjusted? Should I adjust the throttle cable to compress this sping to a fully closed position when the gas is released or let the spring put it into a closed position?
When i let off the gas after being at full throttle, there is a backfire that occurs. Thanks Jim |

Re: Throttle position on carb
sounds like a little of both. Spring needs to pull it closed so it may be stretched and the cable could be out of adjustment as well.

Re: Throttle position on carb
I guess this would leave the butterfly open a bit in the Carb which as I understand could cause the backfire when I come off of the throttle/pedal. I will give the adjustments a whirl tonight and see if this sorts that out

Re: Throttle position on carb
How is it running, starting etc. ? I agree that it does not sound right but perhaps some previous owner/mechanic was trying to keep it running awile longer.
I always like to start getting familiar with an old engine by pulling a compression test. Can't make an engine with poor compression run right without solving that first. Cheers lefty2 |

Re: Throttle position on carb
It was running pretty good in my opinion, I took the carb off and cleaned it and changed some lines and the fuel filter adjusted the throttle cable and now I can't get it to go at all. I am back at it shortly for some more fun and games.

Double check where you put the lines.

Re: Throttle position on carb
Hi guys so I got the carb cleaned and the lines changed and the throttle cable adjusted. i think the perhaps the set screw on the cable retianer came loose and slid a bit. I think that now when I let off of the throttle, the fuel seems to expell out the little tube that comes out the top. It seems like an excessive amount. do you think that I have something else out off adjustment on the carb?
