Default I have found a mid 90's cart

I just sold my electric ezgo- family could not figure out how to charge the cart so its time we get a gas cart-

I have found a gas cart mid 90's cart and the owner said the starter went out and he didn't have the money to fix it- the cart sat close to a year.

he got the stater fixed, however now the cart wont start- it turns over and I am told the gas smells like varnish

is this a cart to stay clear of or think about?

the first thing I would do is check the compression and drain the gas and try some ether?

any thoughts would be appreciated- it is a 4 cycle cart
thanks Chfris

Definatly drain the gas, replace the fuel filter and clean the carberator. Bet there's junk in the float bowel and the main jet is plugged. Stay away from the ether.

Ether is for diesels. My dad had a bent 318 ci boat motor rod to prove it! Chris

It may be ok after cleaned up, but you should get it cheap if it dont run, then its a risk like anything else, it might be ok might not.

I have always picked up carts like that for cheap. If it has compression, go for it. I have always lucked out!(knock, knock)

First check for compression and check the oil. Like said above the fuel and the carb is gonna be bad. Give everything a good cleaning, drain the tank and clean out dirt, new fuel filter, I would even change the fuel lines because they get brittle with age. New spark plug and air filter as well. Just hope for the best that it turns over and doesn't need engine work.

Well, if the folks couldn't plug in a plug, how are they going to be with a gas cap?
