Default What top end kit to get for g1

I havnt takin my g1 apart yet but I'm shopping for a top end kit. Not sure if I'm going to need a jug but keeping options open. I've heard or read that there are spec problems with a few of these aftermarket rebuild kits.
What have you guys found that works best for the money

Plowmans (on the sponsor page) sells a kit with a new cylinder, piston, gaskets, wrist pin, clips. I think I paid $200 plus shipping. Be sure to have him add a new rod needle bearing, it does not come with the kit.

I would suggest doing an overbore on your cylinder, or get a good used one and have it bored to match a "new" piston. I bought a new cylinder and piston together, but they were made by different mfgs. The piston was actually too small (by measurement) to use with the new cylinder. Tolerances will vary from China factory to China factory.

I will have my G1 engine (rebuilt 1 year ago) up for sale, equipped with new crank assembly, new seals, new jug, new piston, new rings, gaskets etc. Just used it this weekend, runs like a champ! Give it a good hone and new rings and it would be as good as new, maybe better. The ports are cleaned up on the cylinder, mildly ported, gasket matched. I spent over $700 on this engine.

Just a thought....

Don is as knowledgeable as you will find. I have his top end kit, clutch kit, and pipe. All exactly what I needed. The nice thing about the top end is that you don't have to take the cylinder out to be bored then go back to pick it up, you can tear it down and be up and running the same day
