G16 dying out after warm up
I have a 98 G16. I just installed a new carb, new fuel pump and new fuel filter. It will fire up cold and run good for 5 min or so then it dies out like it is loosing the fuel supply.
I don't know where to start trouble shooting. Thanks for any advice. Ray |

Did it run before the new parts?

Re: G16 dying out after warm up
It did run, both before the new parts and after the new parts. I was having carb issues. I looked into a rebuild kit then I saw the carbs were cheap. The fuel pump was a bit on the clogged end so I replaced it too since it had oil in it from an over fill of the crank when I changed oil once. It ran decent for about a month or so, then winter came in. I tried to ride it around a bit, but is keeps dying out.

Check for spark during "no run" condition. The TCI (coil) is known to fail in the manner you describe. I have done several over the years, and your failure mode fits what i have seen exactly.

Re: G16 dying out after warm up
Yes, Thats a good symptum it's the TCI. Go to tha auto parts store, buy a "dynamic spark tester? There about 8 bucks. Plug one end into the spark the other on the spark plug. Run the car and when it "dies" see if spark has been lost. If so TCI.

Re: G16 dying out after warm up
I have a spark tester. I'm going to try that tonight. Where is a good place to get a new TCI if that is the case?
Thanks! |

Re: G16 dying out after warm up
How old is the fuel?It only has a shelf life of 2-3months,then you have starting/running issues since the fuel is barely combustible anymore.
