G1 Lift clutch cover help
Hi, I'm a newbie and I know this topic has probably been covered before but i couldn't find my answer. Just purchased a Jake's 6" lift for my G1 and they say you have to notch the frame to clear the clutch bolt. Problem is mine has a gold cover and wasn't sure if i need to leave the cover on and major mods to my frame to clear it, or can i pull the cover off and run that way. Haven't pulled it off yet to see if the clearance was enough or not, wanted some feedback from here first.
Thanks in advance! |

Re: G1 Lift clutch cover help
If you have the (newer) gold colored clutch you will have to cut and weld a notch in the frame. If you had the original clutch (pre 1985) you could have just heated the frame and hit it in with a hammer for clearance. Do a search and you will find pics of both modifications.

Re: G1 Lift clutch cover help
It's the newer gold type cover i guess, i'll take a picture tonight. i haven't seen any pics with the frame cut and the cover on. It seems like most either never had the cover (old original clutch) or have the cover off it appears.

Re: G1 Lift clutch cover help
Here you go! Its gonna take a little bit of time and effort to pull this off because the frame is so thin after the cut out.

It's coming along, took the dust cover off the clutch for now, will be making the mods this week yet.

That's a real set of waffle stompers you have on the cart. It's looking good so far.
