Mystery part on westmont golf buggy.. can you identify it?
Hello again!
Yet another mystery! Through the help of this site we now know we are not insane and do indeed have a westmont golf buggy, and it is one of few. We have had a horrible time of finding any information on it at all. Now we have a new mystery. After cleaning out the garage of other projects that took our time and room we've been able to pull the body off the cart again and start working on it. :D To our dismay on the other hand is a mystery part that has us confused. This lil part was attached to a hard rubber mount on the top of the motor next to what we believe to be a voltage regulator we haven't touched the wires on it but it's not actually "wired to" anything! So the questions remain, 1. what is it? 2. is it needed? |

Hard to tell from the pics, but looks like an old rectifier to me. If so, at one time it converted AC voltage from a magneto to DC to charge the battery. If you do indeed have a voltage regulator now, then the engine has somehow been converted and that part is no longer needed, just never removed. Let's see what the old sled or MC guys have to say......?
PS, let's see some pics of the whole cart! |

Those definitely look like diodes for a rectifier, the metal part is the heat sink so they don't melt themselves. On an newer alternator those are built into the case and all wiring is internal, yours is certainly something from the stone age!

Just got an update from the other half on this lil bugger!
the two black wires shown in the pic are connected to wires that go down by the "flywheel". Could they be connected to a stator? lmfao stone age alternator..... leave it to me to find chicken lips!!! |
