Steering nut cover
Here is another thing I did to clean up the interior. I went to Auto Zone and bought a two inch bearing/hub dust cover, about $5. I put a bead of clear silcone around the base and installed it over the steering wheel nut. Keeps moisture and dirt out as well as making it look finished.

Re: Steering nut cover
I used 3 pieces.
1. 1 1/4" cap, prefer "Lasco" because it is flatter than most of the caps out there. (Purchased at Lowes) 2. 1 1/4" - 1" or 3/4" bushing. The hex type makes for an easier fitting. 3. 1 3/4" aluminum Yamaha badge from ebay via hong kong. BTW they included a couple extra round and a generic "yamaha" badge... I cut down the cap on the band saw and smoothed it out with a sander, I will likely cut the cap down another 1/4 - 3/8". It seems a bit to tall. Took the hex bushing and sanded off the hex "points" to make it more rounded until I got a snug fit in the steering wheel. Didn't glue the hex bushing to the cap, if you press them together they won't come apart. The outside diameters of the cap and the steering wheel are the same. Very smooth transition to the touch. Just need to paint it after I paint my steering wheel and then I'll stick on the badge. The white steering wheel is my g2 and the black is my dads g9. Just thought I'd throw out another option out there... |
