97 TXT New control, Throttle goes full on, won't release, runs backwards of handle

97 TXT EZGo donated to animal shelter, didn't run when received. Checked all wiring, etc. Checked all batteries, fully charged.

Wires were replaced where they were when received, but we did check against online diagrams and seems to be right.

Microswitch on pedal control works correctly (on - off)

We replaced speed control with rebuilt unit, new solenoid and diode bridge.

Jacked up rear (best idea) allowed 30 seconds from connecting batteries, switched from TOW to Run, Turned Key ON, Headlites work. Put handle in Fwd, hit accel pedal, wheels ran backwards, released throttle but it kept running. Turned key off to stop. Reversed handle, (now in R) wheels went Fwd, kept running until key turned off.

Black wire from control to S2, white to S1

Solenoid has Pos connected to BAT, blue wire next to it. Other side has wire to speed control and red & yellow wires + Yellow/white to IGN switch.

Do we have a bad controller or a dislexic wiring connection?

Sounds like you've got more than one problem.
And I'm leaning towards Dyslexic wiring.

Go to the Sticky:s at top of Electric EZGO forum. The two PDF files attached to the top one are fantastic troubleshooting guides.

Swap the field wires at the control. They are the 10g black and white, that will solve your directional problem.... now about the throttle? Give me the specs on the rebuilt unit, it sounds suspiciously as through you have an incorrect throttle program installed.
