Mission accomplished on the plug for the cover. Bearings pressed onto the input shaft and the rest ready to install. Looks like I should have everything I need to get the rear end back together with the 8:1 gears.

I think dealing locally for the bearings saved a few dollars for anyone doing this type of rebuild as long as you have access to someone that can do the removing and replacing of the bearings on the input. A press is required. All of the bearings were sealed and I simply removed the seals where they needed to be open to oil like the original bearings were. $63 total for all 6 bearings including tax. $1.50 for the correct plug for the cover and I think I'm in business.

Excellent thread Terry, I agree this should/could be a sticky "How too". I'm definitely looking forwards to your next test. As I have mentioned before I have those gears too, but my motor is a series. I have noticed some loss of torque, as expected, so I'm hoping you get the results you want. And I'm still running with 18" tires.

One note of the new gear install I have been lightly concerned about is the changing of the intermediate gear. Mine, and assuming yours, had two roll pins but installation doesn't use them. I'm sure hoping there is no "slip" within the intermediate assembly. I saved both pins incase mine does eventually slip and needs to be machined for pin usage.

Mine had the roll pins also but when I had my buddy Bob press the gear onto the new shaft, he told me that he had never had a problem with a gear slipping that was pressed onto a shaft like this. We shall see but I'm pretty confident in whatever Bob says about such things.
