Exclamation Columbia 1985 starter-generator issues

i bought this golf cart 2 years ago it ran good i took it to a race and we got it off the truck it started backed off burped the rings so it took me all winter to save up and get motivated to fix it so last week i pulled it out and took the jug off and got it bored new piston rings the works (usually fixes starting issues) but now my starter wont crank. i got it to work alil and got it to run then tried to restart it nothing. i played with it. the switch is bad but i got it to work a couple more times ran it for awhile on jack stands to maybe do something. it wont work in reverse and the switch is tight on the reverse side but after all that i noticed my system is not charging i cut the light off cause im repaint the cart, but hear i am again trying to go to that race a year later with 2 days to be ready and my cart wont run right

Is there any easy quick fixs for the key switch?

what's wrong with my charging system?

Some people have taken them apart and repaired them but I haven't done it. Maybe someone that has repaired one will respond. Also sounds like your timing is not right and wiring needs to be rechecked.
