Default G2 still overheating.

I've been having problems with my g2 overheating. I had a crack in the plastic between the carb and engine and I thought that was making it run lean but I got that fixed and it is still overheating. It gets so hot that anything on the engine will sizzle if water gets on it and it only takes about 5 minutes of riding to get that hot. I've cleaned the fins and the fan. What else would cause this? Could it be my valves need adjusting?

It does not look lean, but it certainly should be replaced. Is your exhaust system leaking anywhere, especially in the part between the head and the muffler?

I don't see any evidence of it leaking just looking at it. I have made sure the bolts are tight on the muffler, I had to remove the muffler when I replaced the throttle cable and the gasket was still intact but I did not replace it with a new one. All this started after that, maybe it is leaking since I didnt replace the gasket. I made sure the breaks are not dragging and that the rear end moves freely. This thing is driving me nuts. How can I check to make sure the oil pump is working properly?

buy two plugs
it is always good to have a spare
and you really need a clean plug to read rich/lean
google should get you pictures of plugs to aid reading

anyway start with a clean plug run it 5 min and see what you have

a clean carb is a rule as one bit of dirt in a main jet and you are way lean
and from your ''I had a crack in the plastic between the carb and engine and I thought that was making it run lean but I got that fixed and it is still overheating''

ether you still have air leaks or a plugged jets as rich is cold lean is hot
drain the carb check for water and volume of gas
then check gas flow by cranking with the drain out [outside not in a garage]
and use a paper towel to catch the gas or a cup
then spray the botton main jet with carb cleaner

It will likely seize the rod if the dipper is gone.

You also have to make sure the airbox is sealed, I mean really sealed just like factory new. If not it will be lean and you have to jet it richer. They are really weird about the airbox being sealed up tight and together right.

You could have a bad ignitor which will cause the timing to be advanced all the time, iirc. I never seen one but heard of it. They are expensive, good part to swap out and test before you buy one. Some have made their own ignition.

You can add more preload to the secondary to increase rpm at part throttle which will run the fan harder, however it is likely it has a problem making this heat unless you are towing a car or something.

G2 came with a cover under the cradle that closed it in some. G9 had none of that stuff under there and run cooler.
