89 ez go 3pg flooding
I have an 89 EZ Go with a 3pg engine. I recently replaced the carb and fuel pump. It has a new plug, good compression, vacuum at the carb and great spark. I can run it on starting fluid but when I connect the fuel line, it floods terribly. Any Suggestions?

Re: 89 ez go 3pg flooding
DON'T use starting fluid!!!! Gas mix for testing. Sounds like the float needle is stuck closed even though it's a new carb. Take the fuel line off at the carb and place a piece of line long enough on it so you can attemp to blow in it. If you can't the needle is stuck. Remove the carb and free the neddle and your good to go.

I'm curious where you found a new carb at?

Re: 89 ez go 3pg flooding
I understand the starting fluid comment with a 2 stroke. Believe me, it was just to make sure it would fire and very brief. also, the crank case was full of oil. I pulled the carb and the pin was all metal. the old carb had a pin that had a neoprene seal and I changed them out so it won't stick. I can start the engine by pinching the fuel line and it will run but not well. once I let it stop, it will not start back up unless I pinch the line and it still runs poorly. (too rich) I seated the air mixture screw and then backed it out 1 3/4 turns because it had fallen out. Apparently it was loose when I installed it. Should I consider adjusting the air/fuel setting? Is there some other issue that could cause it to run too rich? Thanks for the help!

That needle is only for low speed air/fuel mixture at idle which our carts don't do. 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 is fine and lock it down.

Re: 89 ez go 3pg flooding
Aftermarket ready to bolt on for around $50 with a 30 day return and 1 yr. warranty. However, Mikuni BV-21 is around $150 to $180. I can settle for $50 even if I have to replace it every five years or so. I figure a little sea foam twice a year and I should be fine.

Re: 89 ez go 3pg flooding
Any tricks to adjusting the linkage arm on the carb? Mine had a "homemade" end and the length isn't correct for low speed. I ordered new end clips and will install. Is it safe to assume that as long as the butterfly is closed until the pedal is pushed and the two move in sync, It will be ok? Also, just to confirm, worn crank seals would make it run lean and starve for fuel not rich and flood, right?
