Default Marathon clutch question

I've noticed the clutch on my 89 Marathon I've been restoring looks to me like it's from a later model Four stroke, if this is in fact the case it makes me wonder if this clutch will work adequately. This is my first cart and the clutch was on the buggy when I got it , it appears to work ok but my idea of ok may be different than someone with more cart experience. Thanks for reading!

Default Re: Marathon clutch question

I have no informative knowledge to give.... But from what I've read even though the older marathons are 2 stroke... they don't run any higher rpm than a 4 stroke. 5,000RPM is about the max I've read to run the 3PG 2 stroke.... I couldn't imagine a 4stroke robbins running over that on purpose.

So.... what I'm getting at.... the clutches operate off of centrifugal force, and a spring. So no matter what engine is turning the clutch.... the RPM is what will make the difference.

2stroke 2,500rpm...4stroke 2,300rpm...diesel 2,500rpm should all rotate the clutch at the same speed.

True, i just thought maybe the two stroke clutches had more of a "stall" if you will than the four strokes since four stroke have more low end grunt. All my experience with two and four strokes comes from the motocross world and unfortunately our clutches are a whole different animal.
