Default 1986 EZGO sluggish

New to the Cart world and just picked up an 86 EZGO to tinker with over the winter.

Problem is the cart is sluggish to start in forward and seems faster in reverse.
Once it gets going the cart runs good but will lose fuel pressure after running for about a 1/2 hour.

I stripped down and cleaned carb and replaced fuel filters.

Any help is appreciated!!!

Usually faster in reverse means the crank seals are worn.

I agree with the crank seals, if they're going bad it's also common for them to act worse when the engine heats up, which will cause a loss in crankcase pressure and ensuingly, lower fuel pressure.

just for reference: I also purchased an 86 gas ezgo a few months ago.

Have you checked your compression? Also, reach down and grab the drive clutch that is attached to the motor shaft. Can you wiggle it? Is there play in the motor shaft. If so that would indicate worn crankshaft or seals.

My motor had 60lbs of compression where normal should be around 130lb. I ended up installing a new top end kit on mine for about $300. This kit came with new cylinder jug, piston/rings, gaskets, crankshaft, piston arm, crankshaft and piston bearings. I also paid my local ezgo dealer $70 to crack my case and install the crankshaft.

Now my compression is around 125lb.
